Zita is a gorgeous and incredibly sweet dog who has been at our rescue for over two years. She originally came to us as a very young dog with a broken leg and in horrible condition which delayed her possible adoption for many months. Once she had fully recovered from her difficult time, she was offered for adoption and placed in a loving home as an only dog and where she needed to be able to be left alone for several hours at a time. She was very unhappy and was returned after a few days and has been here since. We have decided to offer her for adoption once again with the hope that there might be an ideal home for her where she and her new family will have a wonderful life together. Zita is crate trained and housetrained and is a joy to be around. Zita will need someone home pretty much full time and she will need another playful medium to large size dog for companionship. Zita has strong prey drive and cannot be in a home with a very small dog or small animals including cats where a family pet might go dashing by and be mistaken for prey. She can clear a 6' fence in a single bound so cannot be contained safely without a covered run. She will need lots of long leash walks (she loves them!) and is high energy so regular exercise is a must. Invisible fencing or a tie out would not be acceptable. Zita is a favorite among everyone she meets with her joy filled and loving personality although when she first heads out for a walk she tends to be a bit over the top with exuberance. Applicants should reside within 50 miles of Ithaca, NY so that a home visit can be conducted as part of the adoption process.
